Romeo and Juliette the first bear cubs 
The first bear cubs of 2014 arrived on March 17 from Revelstoke, BC. Early in the morning a group of loggers showed up at their logging site to find two little bear cubs out stumbling around. The owner of the company shut down the site and left the two cubs to see if mom would come and collect them. By 3pm the cubs were still there. They looked around for a den and any sign of mom, but found nothing. So Critter Care took the cubs into care. This brother and sister duo will stay with us for about 15 months (till June 2015). The family that was responsible for their rescue named them Romeo and Juliette. |
 It’s mating season! Many wild animals such as raccoons, skunks and squirrels will be actively looking for nice dry, warm, dark, safe places to den and give birth to their babies in the Spring, so now is the time to have a really good look around your property and make sure that your attic, shed, garage or under your house is not accessible. Tree branches that extend over or close to your house need to be cut back because they provide all sorts of wildlife with a direct route into your home, and some will just dig right through your roof. Board up or fence off any spaces under buildings and make sure your chimney has a squirrel proof cover. Check all around your roof line for ways into your attic. If you have a hot tub or a pool and you don’t want a family of raccoons living under there all summer, make sure there is no way to get underneath.Critter Care does not provide wildlife removal services, and although we are happy to recommend humane companies that will help you evict critters from your home, they do not come cheap so prevention is definitely the way to go. If you find an entry point and you’re not sure what to do about it, there are many resources with suggestions on-line, just MAKE SURE there aren’t any animals already inside before you block of the exit! Baby season is just around the corner, so do the work now, and avoid having your home turned into a nursery in the next couple of months. |
